Accordingtothemalegenitalia, N. octogesima and N. laoana spp. n. representadistinctlineage.</p> <p>Description. Wingspan 21–24 mm, lengthofforewing 11–12 mm. Antennaefiliform, ciliate, inmaleciliaarrangedintofourtransversearrays, lengthofciliatwicediameterof flagellum; infemaleoneciliumpersegment, shorterthandiameterofflagellum. Length oflabialpalps 2.5 timesthediameterofeyeinmale, threetimesinfemale, inbothsexes tipnotlight, dorsalscaleslong, dorsaledgestronglyconvex. Scale-hoodofvertexbroadbased, relativelylong, itstipbifurcate. Profemoraand – tibiaeinmaleslightlythickened, hairy. Uncusrelativelylong, curved, bulgedventrallyatbasalhalf, itstippointed. Scaphiumaslongasuncus; tegumenlongerthanvinculum, thelatterbeingverystrong. Saccusbroad-based, long, wide, itstiprounded. Baseoftranstillavery broad. Shapeofjuxtalikeashieldorcoat- of-arms, withasmallnotchatitsventro- medial edge. Valvabroad-based, abruptlytapering. Cucullusfreeonlyatitstip, verynarrow. Sacculusverywell- developed, basallynarrow, distallydilated, itsdistalendtwicebroader thanbase. Harpearelativelybroad-basedprocess, itstiprounded, itsbasefusedwiththe ventro- lateralcornerofthesacculus. Costaheavilydeveloped, endinginlong, bifurcate process, ventralextensioncurvedventrallybeyondtheharpe, dorsalextensiontongueshaped. Aedeagusstraight, verythickandshort; vesicaglobular, twicelongerthanaedeagus, itsdistalthirdampleandscobinate, withanultimatelylong, strongcornutusemergingclosetocarina, being 2.5 timeslongerthanaedeagus.</p> <p>Femalegenitalia (Fig. 13). Ovipositorlobesrectangular. Apophysesquitebroad; apophysesposterioresca 1.4 timeslongerthanapophysesanteriores. LobesofsternumA7 rounded. Basalhalfofsinusverynarrow, itsposteriorpartbroad. SternumA7 withlarge, rounded, broad-based, sclerotisedplate. Ductusbursaebroadandveryshort, strongly sclerotised, connectedtocorpusbursaeratherproximallyatdorsalside; withrathertubular, heavilysclerotised, terminallyslightlycurvedanteriorpocket. Corpusbursaeglobular, denselyscobinate; appendixbursaeshortlyconical.</p> <p>Diagnosis. Theclosestrelativeofthisnewspeciesis N. laoana sp. n. The differentialexternalmorphologicalfeaturesof N. octogesima areasfollows: the ground-colourofwingsisdarkerin N. octogesima thanin N. laoana, thebasal areaofwingsislessochreoussuffused, the 8-shapedreniformstigmaismore prominent, moredistinctlypaleyellow, andtheorbicularstigmaisalsomore conspicuous. Inthemalegenitalia, theventralprocessofvinculumisstronger, thickerin N. octogesima, thedorsaledgeofcostaisslightlycurved, thesubapicalneckisconsiderablythinner, andthebifurcateprocessissmallerwith shorterextensions. Thehugecornutusintheaedeagusisslightlylongerthan in N. laoana, itsdistalhalfsinuousandtaperingintoacutetip (notbifurcate asin N. laoana); andthevesicahaslargedistalscobinateareaincontrastto N. laoana. Inthefemalegenitaliatheductusbursaeismuchbroader, thecorpus bursaeismorespherical, itssurfaceismorescobinate, andtheappendixof ductusbursaeislongerthanthoseof N. laoana.</p> <p>Themalegenitaliaof N. octogesima aresomewhatsimilartothoseof N. abnormalis (Hampson, 1912), buttheuncusandthescaphiumarenarrower, longerandmorecurvedinthenewspecies, thenotchofthejuxtaissmaller, thesaccusismuchmoreelongate, thecostaismuchmoredeveloped, thedistalpartofsacculusismuchbroader, buttheharpeissmallerthanin N. abnormalis. Thetwospeciesareratherdissimilarexternallyas N. octogesima is considerablylargerinsize, havingconvexcostaofthemaleforewing, much strongercrosslinesonbothwings, conspicuouslargeandyellowreniform stigma, andthehindwingismuchdarkerthanin N. abnormalis.</p> <p>Etymology. Thisspeciesistheclosestrelativeof N. octogesima.</p> <p>Description. Wingspan 22–25.5 mm, lengthofforewing 11–12.5 mm. Oneofthelargest Naarda species. Antennaefiliform, ciliate, setosewithonesetapersegment. Lengthof setae 1.5–2 timesdiameterofflagelluminmale, nearlyorjustaslongasdiameterofflagelluminfemale. Ciliaofmalesaslongasorsomewhat (ca 1.5 times) longerthandiameter offlagellum, arrangedtofourtransversearrays; ciliaoffemaleshalfaslongasdiameter offlagellum, inthreetransversearrays. Maleantennawithlongscalesformingasmall nodeonthecentralsegments. Labialpalpsrelativelyshort, theirlength 2.5 timesdiameter ofeyeinmale, 3.5 timesinfemale. Juxtatriangularorheart- shaped (taperingventrally), with smallventro- medialnotch. Valvabroad-based, abruptlytaperingtowardssubapicalneck. Cucullusverynarrow, freeonlyattip. Sacculuswelldeveloped, distallydilated, itsdistal endtwicebroaderthanbase. Harpearelativelybroad-basedprocess, itstiprounded, its basefusedwiththeventro- lateralcornerofthesacculus. Costaheavilysclerotised, itsdorsaledgestraight, distalendbifurcate, moreorlessbird-head-like, withlong, acuteventral extension (“bill”) whichdoesnotsurpassingventraledgeofcucullus; dorsalextension rounded, tongue-shaped. Aedeagusstraight, verythick; vesicasphaericalwithtwosmall diverticula, itssurfacesmooth, nearlytwicebroaderandlongerthanaedeagus, withan extremelylarge, broadandstraight, apicallybifurcatecornutus.</p> <p>Femalegenitalia (Fig. 14). Ovipositorlobesangular. Apophysesposterioresslightly (ca 1.3 times) longerthanapophysesanteriores. LobesofsternumA7 rounded. Sinusvery broad. Ductusbursaeveryshortandsurprisinglynarrow, hardlysclerotised. Corpusbursaeoval, itsanteriorquarterdenselyscobinatebyverysmallgranules. Astronglysclerotised, broad, longitudinalbandpresentfromthemouthofductusbursaetoanteriortipof corpusbursae, endinginasmallappendix.</p> <p>Diagnosis. Thecomparisonofthisnewspecieswithitsclosestrelative, N. octogesima, isgivenundertheDiagnosisofthatspecies. Thebestdistinctiveexternalfeaturesof N. laoana arethelessprominentreniformstigma, the moreyellowishsuffusedbasalpartofbothwings, andthemoredistinctly markedyellowsubterminallines. Thekeyfeaturesofthemalegenitaliaare thestraightandapicallybifurcatecornutus, thelackofscobinationofvesica, thelargerandmorebird-head-likesclerotisedendofcostawithlongerand moreacuteventralextensionandthefiner, thinnervinculum. Thefemale genitaliaof N. laoana areeasilyseparablefromthoseof N. octogesima bythe shorterandthinner, membranousductusbursaewithshorteranteriorpocketlikeextension, andthelessscobinatecorpusbursae.</p> <p>Themalegenitaliaof N. laoana resemblethoseof N. abnormalis buthave narrower, longeruncusandscaphium, muchlongersaccus, muchmoredevelopedcosta, muchbroaderdistalpartofsacculusandsmallerharpe. The twospeciesaremoredissimilarexternally, thenewspeciesismuchlargerin size, andthecostaofmaleisnotconcaveincontrasttothelatterspecies. The groundcolourof N. laoana islighter (inmale) ormorereddish (infemale), the reniformstigmaislargerbutlessconspicuousthanin N. abnormalis.</p> <p>Etymology. Theclosestrelativeofthenewspeciesis N. glauculalis (Hampson, 1893), thedetailedcomparisonisgivenintheDiagnosis. Thestructureof antennaeof N. mirabilis issimilartothatofcertaintaxaoccurringinthePhilippines, whiletheshapeandpatternofthewingsarerathersimilartothoseof N. blepharota (Strand, 1920).</p> <p>Description. Wingspan 20 mm, lengthofforewing 10 mm. Antennaefiliform, with finecrest- likeventralthickeningsofeachjointprojectedslightlytowardstipofantenna, baseoftheseplateswithtwosetaeoneachsegmentbeingtwicelongerthandiameterof flagellum; ciliaemergefromtheventraledgeofplatesbeing 1.5 timesdiameterofflagellum. Scaphiumaslong asuncus, curvedagainstit. Tegumenaslongasvinculum. Juxtadeltoid-shaped, nearlyas wideaslong. Valvabroad, withparalleledgesinbothsections, basaltwo- thirds (saccular section) catwiceasbroadasapicalthird; cucullusobliquelytruncate. Dorsalhalfofcucullusfusedwiththestronglydevelopedcosta. Sacculuslong, narrowatbase, medialthird twicebroaderthanbasalpartandminutelydentatealongdorsaledge, distalthirdaswide asbasalpart; distalhalfofsacculuscharacteristicallysetose. Harpestronglydeveloped, broad-based, fusedwithsacculusatanarrowsection; erectpartforminglarge, mushroomshapedprocessdirectedtowardsthetipofvalva. Aedeaguslong, slightlycurved, itsedges parallel, carinalprocessabsent; vesica (uneverted) scobinate.</p> <p>Diagnosis. Theexternalfeaturesandthegenitaliaof N. mirabilis aresimilartothoseof N. glauculalis. However, adarkareaispresentin N. mirabilis closetothesubterminalline, whichisabsentin N. glauculalis. Inthemale genitaliaofthenewspeciesthejuxtaismoreangular, thevalvaisbroader, andtheharpeismuchbigger, mushroom-shaped, beingverydifferentfrom thatof N. glauculalis; inaddition, theaedeagusof N. mirabilis islesscurved.</p> <p>Thegenitalstructuresof N. mirabilis and N. vicina arestrikinglydifferentforthefirstsight (Figs 3 &amp; 4) butthehomologouspartsarerecognisable, displayingacloserrelationshipbetweenthetwonewspecies.</p> <p>Etymology. Thebeautifulmalegenitaliainspiredustogivethespecificname.</p> <p>Distribution. Theshapeandcolourationoftheforewingareverysimilar to those of N. fuscicosta (Hampson, 1891) and also similar to those of N. acolutha Holloway, 2008 and N. lancanga DengetHan, 2011 but, accordingtothe malegenitalia, N. vicina isamemberofadistinctlineagerathercloserto N. glauculalis.</p> <p>Description. Wingspan 19–21 mm, lengthofforewing 9–10 mm. Themaleantenna lessspecialised, moreorlessfiliformwithshortfasciculateciliaandflatdorsalscales; femaleantennafiliform, verysparselyciliate. Dorsalscale-hoodochreous- brown, moreor lessroundedtriangular, coveringmostpartsofvertex. Ocelliverysmall, black. Palpiof bothsexessimilar, longandporrect, withratherlongventralhair-scalesandmoreorless lanceolatesecondjoint; thirdjointrelativelylongandpointed. Labialpalpsmorethan threetimeslongerthandiameterofeye. Characteristicwingpatternfeatures: paleochreous- brown (buff) forewinggroundcolourwithdensetobacco- brownsuffusionatcostal area, alongoutermarginandatpostmedialline; crosslinespresentbutdiffuse, subterminal fuscous, diffuse, sinuous; terminallinearowoffineblack(ish) dots. Orbicularhardlyvisible, reniformmarkedwithochreousscalesandtwofine, sometimesobsolescentbrown dots. Hindwingpatternvariablydistinct, usuallyobsolescent, tobacco- brownsuffusion usuallyintense, discalspotsandsinuous, ochreous- brownlinesinmarginalarearegularly well- visible; terminallinearowofdarkdots, ciliaasgroundcolour, finelyspottedwith darkerbrown.</p> <p>Malegenitalia (Fig. 4). Uncuslong, curvedatitsbase. Scaphiummuchshorterthan uncus, curvedagainstit. Tegumenlongerthanvinculum. Saccusnarrow, relativelyshort, itstiprounded. Juxtalarge, rounded, isodiametric. Valvalong, tapering. Costaconvex, well developed, strong, itstipacutelypointed, extendingintocucullusandfusedwithitsdorsal part. Sacculusrelativelybroad, short; itsdistalhalfdenselysetose. Harpepresentdistally fromsacculus, itsbasenearlyasbroadasvalva, erectprocesslarge, abruptlytaperingbut terminallyrounded. Aedeagusstraight, thick, carinawithrelativelyshort, broadprocess scobinatesparselybysmallteeth. Vesicaglobular, sparselyscobinatebytinygrains.</p> <p>Femalegenitalia (Fig. 15). Ovipositorlobesrectangular. Apophysesnarrow; length ofapophysesposterioresca 1.3 timesthatofapophysesanteriores. SternumA7 withtwo roundedlobes. Sinusverynarrow. Ductusbursaelong, dividedtobroad, sclerotisedposteriorpartwithcolliculumandnarrow, membraneousproximalpart. Corpusbursaequite small, ovoid, withbroadbutshortcervixbursaeattachednexttothemouthofductusbursae. Surfaceofcorpusbursaesmooth, thatofcervixscobinatebytinygranules.</p> <p>Diagnosis. Thewingpatternof N. vicina isconfusinglysimilartothatof N. fuscicosta, althoughthefiliformantennaof N. vicina andtheconspicuously pectinateantennaof N. fuscicosta caneasilydistinguishthemales. Naardalancanga hasalsoverysimilarpattern, butlacksthedarkareaclosetodorsum, whichispresentin N. vicina. Moreover, theinnermostfasciaonthehindwing of N. vicina issinuous, whilein N. lancanga itisratherstraight. Themale genitaliashowmoreconspicuousdifferencesbetweenthesetwospecies: the ventraledgeofuncusin N. secreta isstraight, whilethatof N. blepharota (Fig. 7) has an emergence, the juxta is broader, the valva has no harpe, but the costa hassmalllobe, whichisabsentin N. blepharota.</p> <p>Themalegenitaliaofthisnewspeciesaresimilartothoseof N. atrata. However, thecostallobeofthevalvaof N. secreta isabsentfrom N. atrata, moreover, thevalvaislesstapering, itstiproundedinsteadofbeingpointedas in N. atrata, thesaccusisbroaderandthecornutusinthevesicaisalsobroader.</p> <p>Etymology. HüttlerB.”; slideNo. TB 571m (coll. HNHM).</p> <p>Taxonomy. Themalegenitaliaimplycloserelationshipwith N. secreta and N. atrata.</p> <p>Description. Wingspanca. 11 mm, lengthofforewing 5.5 mm (rightforewingof holotypemissing). Headmissing. Characteristicwingpatternfeatures: costaofforewing straight; groundcolourdarkbrownishgrey (thespecimenisworn); transverselinesindistinct; reniformstigmamedium-sized, lightyellow, semilunar, withlargeblackspotatbottomhalf, verywidedarkedgeincell; orbicularstigmalarge, ca. halfaslargeasreniform, itsgroundcolourlikethatofreniform. Colourationandpatternofhindwingsimilarto thoseofforewing.</p> <p>Malegenitalia (Fig. 9). Uncusrelativelyshort, slightlycurved, mediumwide, hooked. Scaphiumstraight, aslongasuncus. Tegumenslightlylongerthanvinculum. Saccus broad-based, long, graduallytapering, itstippointed. Juxtalarge, roundedtriangular, broaderthanlong. Valvalong, narrow, slightlytapering. Asmallcostallobepresentin theapicalquarterofvalva. Sacculusmediumwide, elongate, nearlyhalfaslongasvalva. Distalquarterofvalvacomposedbythesclerotisedfusionofcosta, harpeandcucullus; thissectionbeingtapering, apicallyslightlycurvedtodorsaldirection, itstippointed. Aedeagusmediumthick, evenlywide, straight; proximalquarterofvesicascobinatebyrelativelybiggrainsandwithlarge, narrowcornutusbeingstronglycurvedatbase, straight atremainingsection.</p> <p>Diagnosis. Theshapeandsizeofforewingofthisnewspeciesaresimilar to N. ineffectalis sensuHolloway, 2008. But N. huettleri lacksthemalebasal scentorganofforewing, whichispresentin N. ineffectalis sensuHolloway, moreover, theorbicularspotislarger. Themalegenitaliashowmoreconspicuousdifferencesbetweenthesetwospecies: theuncusin N. huettleri is notbifurcate, whilethatof N. ineffectalis isbranched, thejuxtalacksthehuge processpresentin N. ineffectalis, thevalvaismuchnarrowerandlonger, and thecornutusofaedeagusismuchnarrower.</p> <p>Thesupposedclosestrelativeof N. huettleri is N. secreta. However, N. huettleri differsfromthelatterbythesomewhatnarroweruncus, narrower valvaandthemorecurvedapicalfusedstructureofvalva.</p> <p>Etymology. Thenewspeciesisdedicatedtothecollectorofthetypespecimen, Mr BélaHüttler (1937–2002), formertaxidermistoftheHNHM.</p> <p>Distribution. BMNH)</p> <p>Taxonomy. Theshapeandthepatternofthewingsareclosesttothoseof N. maculifera, butconspicuousdifferencescanbeobserved (seetheDiagnosis).</p> <p>Description. Wingspan 11–12 mm, lengthofforewing 5–5.5 mm. Oneofthesmallestspeciesofthegenus. Maleantennaconsistingofsomewhatthickenedjoints, withlong fasciculateciliaarisingfromventralcrest- likeridge; femaleantennawithconsiderably lessthickenedjoints, withoutprominentridgeandciliabutwithsparredscales. Frontal scale-hoodsmall, roundedtriangular, consistingofbroad, largescales. Malepalpsshort, twicelongerthandiameterofeye, gracile, slightlyupturneddistally, greyish- brownwith somewhitishhair-scales; thirdjointratherlongandacute. Femalepalpssomewhatlonger, thicker, moreporrect. Characteristicwingpatternfeatures: groundcolourdarkblackish-grey; allcrosslinesdissolvedindarkgroundcolourorhardlyvisible; subterminallinedark mousegrey, othertransverselinesdark, blackish, subterminalandpostmediallinesparallel, veryslightlysinuous. Reniformstigmaconspicuous, narrow, yellow, relativelysmall, withindistinctdarkedge, withoutdarkerinnerscales; orbicularstigmamissing; hindwing lighterthanforewing, mouse-grey, withouttracesoftransverselinesanddiscalspot.</p> <p>Malegenitalia (Fig. 10). Uncusverybroad, short, withhook- liketip. Scaphium straight, aslongasuncus. Tegumenslightlylongerthanvinculum. Saccusindistinct. Juxta Y-shaped, bifurcate; itsbranchesverynarrowanddirectedventro- laterally. Valvalshape uniquewithinthegenus, itsdorsalandventraledgesnearlyparallel, graduallytapering, sacculusdistallygraduallydilated, aslongasvalva; cucullusnotdifferentiated. Dorso-lateralcornerofsacculusextendingbeyongdorsaledgeofvalva. Costapresentonlyat thebasal 1/3 ofvalva, butbroad. Harpeabsentorentirelyfusedwithsacculus. Aedeagus verythick, slightlycurved, carinawithshort, straight, slightlysclerotisedprocess. Vesica globular, itsapicalhalfdenselyscobinatebyelongategrains, basalpartwithbroadand longdiverticulum, apicalpartofthisdiverticulumisarmedbyca. 10 small, rose-spine-like cornuti.</p> <p>Femalegenitalia (Fig. 19). Ovipositorlobesshort, angular. Apophysesanteriores onlyhalfaslongasapophysesposteriores. SternumA7 short, sinusabsent. Ductusbursaerelativelybroad, moderatelylong, colliculumlarge, entirelycoveringductusbursae. Corpusbursaeellipsoidal, itswholesurfacescobinatebytinygrains; posteriorquarter with broad and very long cervix bursae being as long as the 2/3 of corpus bursae. Cervix smooth, exceptforitsverybasalparthavingsimilarscobinateasincorpusbursae.</p> <p>Diagnosis. Theexternalappearanceofthisnewspeciesissimilarto N. maculifera (Staudinger, 1892), but N. palawana issmallerinsize, thelabialpalps areshorter, theforewingisbroader, thereniformstigmaissmallerandthe orbicularstigmaismissingwhileitispresentin N. maculifera.</p> <p>Themalegenitaliaof N. palawana aresomewhatreminiscenttothoseof N. melinau Holloway, 2008 (Fig. 12) butintheformertaxontheuncusismuch broaderandshorter, thecostalprocessof N. melinau isabsent, thedistalpart ofthesacculusismuchbroader, andthevesicaofaedeagushasmuchmore, smallercornutithaninthelatterspecies.</p> <p>Thefemalegenitaliaofthisnewspeciesareverysimilartothoseof N. alternata TóthetRonkay, 2014, buttheapophysesanterioresareconsiderably longerin N. palawana, theductusbursaeisbroaderandentirelycoveredby thelargecolliculumwhichisabsentin N. alternata. Thefemalegenitaliaare also somewhat similar to those of N. bisignata Walker, 1866 (Fig. 23), but the ductusbursaeisbroader, thecorpusbursaeisslightlynarrowerandscobinate incontrasttothesmoothcorpusbursaeof N. bisignata.</p> <p>Etymology. ThisspeciesisthemosteasytodistinguishamongthosewhichwerecollectedattheislandofPalawan.</p> <p>Distribution.
