TYPE LOCALITY: Mexico, Puebla, Mt. Orizaba .
DISTRIBUTION: Extreme S. Utah and S.W. Colorado (U.S.A.), south in mountains to C. Oaxaca (Mexico).
COMMENT: Subgenus Microtus; see Anderson, 1959, Univ. Kans. Publ. Mus. Nat. Hist., 9:415-511, and Gromov and Polyakov, 1977:319. Hooper and Hart, 1962, Misc. Publ. Mus. Zool. Univ. Mich., No. 120, 68 pp., placed this species in genus Microtus, subgenus Pitymys, closely allied with ochrogaster and pinetorum (RSH), but the dental pattern shows no resemblance to Pitymys (CAR).
