The numbers in brackets indicates values' range. Redescription. Head. Fastigium of vertex is widely truncated and 1.5 – 3 times wider than scapus. Thorax. Pronotum is elongated and broadened backward. Male pronotum is narrowest in the beginning of prozona, broadened backward after the first transverse sulcus. Disc of pronotum is flat with the exception of distinct depression around the sulcus. Legs are robust and long. Anterior coxa is armed with a spine. Anterior femur is longer than pronotum. Anterior and median femora possess indistinct tiny spines on ventro-anterior margin; posterior femora possess a few small spines near apex on ventro-posterior margin. Each tibia possesses fine spines on each margin. Tymapana on the fore tibiae is fully open on both sides, widened at and abruptly constricted below tympana. Female pronotum resembles that of male in general, but is less broadened backward especially in the ending of metazona. Wings. Male tegmina are well developed, extending beyond abdominal apex and surpassing apex of hind femur. The number of stridulatory teeth varies between 64 and 122 at the species level (Table 4; Fig. 5). The lowest number is observed in M. marmorata He while the highest in M. minor yunnanensis. Female tegmina are also well developed and extend beyond apex of abdomen, but are distinguished from male tegmina by the length and shape. Table 3. 03A187E7FF98FFF906AADE4BFDC0FD35.taxon	distribution	Distribution. The species of the genus Mecopoda are distributed mainly over Oriental Region and a few areas in Palearctic (Korea and Japan). They were also reported in Pakistan (Panhwar et al. 2016) and Micronesia (Vickery et al. 1999). Notes. The types of other three names within the genus Mecopoda in East Asia have also been exmamined besides Locusta (Mecopoda) niponensis, as well as the sole female nymph type of Decticus pallidus Walker, 1869 in India. These types were kept in British Museum (Natural History), London, except that the type of Locusta longipes Thunberg, 1815, which was kept in Museum of Evolution, Uppsala University, Sweden. The sole male nymph type of Locusta longipes could be possibly collected from Japan through guessing from Thunberg’s travel history, for its collection labels were missing. The sole male nymph type of Lucera bicoloripes Walker, 1869 was collected from Macao in China. One lectotype of Decticus tenebrosus Walker, 1869 was established for one Philippine female adult and another paralectotype was established for one Korean female adult. The nymph types cannot be identified to species level, therefore, the three species Decticus pallidus, Locusta longipes, and Lucera bicoloripes, should be considered as nomina dubia under Mecopoda. Concerning the species Decticus tenebrosus, the Korean female paralectotype can be distinguished from the Philippine female lectotype by the smaller body, tegminal structure and shape. The species studied here within the species group possesses the widest tegmina, comparatively long files (Fig. 5 a – f) and widest mirrors (Fig. 6 a – e). The file is widest in middle, from which teeth are gradually narrowed toward both ends (Fig. 5 a – f). Bioacoustics. One song unit is composed of several continuous syllables (Fig. 1). This species group possesses 5 song types (Fig. 1, Table 2). The song types of M. himalaya sp. nov. and M. marmorata He are distinguished from other three types by the repeated syllables without amplitude change (Fig. 1 p – q, s – t). In the other three types, one song unit could be separated into three phases, i. e., low-amplitude beginning and ending phases, and high-amplitude middle climax (Fig. 1 a – d, f – i, k – n). Within a song unit, low-amplitude beginning and ending phases consists of repeated simple syllables, high-amplitude climax is complex and composed of several repeated subunits. One subunit consists of 3 variable-amplitude syllables (Fig. 1 a – e). The new nominate subspecies is distinguished by the minor body size, narrow file, and less number of teeth of file (see measurements in Tables 5 – 6). Notes. Walker (1869) described the species Decticus tenebrosus for one female specimen collected from Philippine Island in Mr. Cuming’s collection and one female specimen collected from Korea presented by Capt. Sir E. Belcher, which were deposited in BHNM, London. After examining types, we partly agreed with Storozhenko & Paik’s action (2007) that they designated the female specimen from Philippine Island as a lectotype of M. tenebrosus (Walker, 1869). Nonetheless, the latter Korean specimen differs from the Philippine specimen by the minor size, the tegminal shape, length and shape of ovipositor, and etc ..
