Eyes extending above the pronotum. Lateral lobes of the paranota not contiguous to the body. Hind wings about as long as the pronotum.

The new genus is separated from (the types of) Systolederus, Pseudosystolederus and Teredorus by the alae that do not extend beyond the pronotum. From Pseudosystolederus it is also separated by the absence of projections on the middle femora. It is separated from Teredorus by the lateral lobes of the paranota that are not contiguous to the body.

DESCRIPTION.

See the description of the type species.

JUSTIFICATION OF THE CREATION OF A NEW GENUS

We describe a new genus for the new Afrotropical species, in order not to augment the confusion in the taxonomy and systematics of species with a narrow fastigium. Most of these are present in the Indo-Malayan region and have been described in Systolederus and Teredorus. Teredorus, however, was created for a Neotropical species. It is highly unlikely that the genus would be present in the Neotropical, Afrotropical and Indo-Malayan regions, as Deng et al. (2014) have argued. Moreover, in the Afrotropics it is only known from West-Africa, and in the Neotropical region from Peru. In Africa, there is no other genus known that seems closely related.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/9927FF59D125FFAF0AD1FCE2984FF906	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply. Dr. Garms was foremost amongst experts on blackfly biology and on the transmission and control of onchocerciasis, but was interested in all insects and provided extensive material, especially collected in Western Africa to the ZMH; amonst this material, the newly described species was discovered.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/9927FF59D125FFAC0AD1F8AE9846FE16	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply.
