Rostral spine approximately 3 times longer than CL and covered by spinules. Elongated posterior spines each with 2 rows of spinules along entire ventral margin. One pair of small plumose setae in anteromedian region and 1 minute tubercle on posterior region. Ventral margin of carapace with serrated edge. Eyes sessile.</p> <p>Antennule (Fig. 3A): Uniramous. Swollen medially and narrowing distally. Endopodal bud rudimentary. Exopod unsegmented, with 3 aesthetascs and 3 distal setae (1 simple short + 2 plumose long). Accessory flagellum absent.</p> <p>Antenna (Figs. 3D. 1, 3D. 2): Biramous. Endopod fused with protopod, bearing 1 subterminal plumose seta, distal apex narrowly pointed. Exopod slender, tapering distally, approximately 2 times as long as endopod, with 1 subterminal plumose seta and 1 subterminal spinule. Distal margin of exopod occasionally with bifurcated terminal edge (see Fig 3D. 2).</p> <p>Mandible (Fig. 4A): Asymmetrically dentate, incisor processes with sharp teeth. Molar processes serrated. Mandible palp absent.</p> <p>Maxillule (Fig. 4D): Coxal endite with 8 setae (plumodenticulate, sparsely-plumose and distally plumose). Basial endite with 10 setae (6 stout laterally-denticulated, 4 plumodenticulate). Endopod unsegmented, with 4 sparsely-plumose setae and microtrichia on dorsal margin.</p> <p>Maxilla (Fig. 5A): Coxal endite bilobed; proximal lobe with 8 setae (simple and sparsely-plumose), distal lobe with 4 setae (simple, sparsely-plumose and laterally-plumose). Basal endite bilobed; proximal lobe with 7 setae (simple, stout laterally-denticulated, sparsely-plumose and laterally-plumose), distal lobe with 7 setae (simple and sparsely-plumose). Endopod unsegmented, with 9 setae (3+2+4 simple and sparsely-plumose). Scaphognathite with 6+1 plumose setae on anterolateral and posterior margin, respectively.</p> <p>First maxilliped (Fig. 5D): Biramous. Coxa with 2 simple setae. Basis with 2+2+2+3 simple setae on ventral margin. Endopod 4-segmented, with 3,3,2+3,1+6–7 setae (first to third segment with simple and sparsely-plumose setae, fourth segment with simple, laterally-plumose and sparsely-plumose setae). Exopod incompletely 2-segmented, with 0,4 plumose-natatory terminal setae.</p> <p>Second maxilliped (Fig. 6A): Biramous. Coxa without setae. Basis with 1+2 simple setae on ventro-distal margin. Endopod 4-segmented, with 2,2,1+2,1+5 setae (first to third segments with simple setae; fourth segment with simple, laterally plumose and sparsely plumose setae). Exopod incompletely 2-segmented, with 0,4 plumose-natatory setae.</p> <p>Third maxilliped: Present as small bud, perceptible under carapace.</p> <p>Pereiopods: Present as small buds, perceptible under carapace.</p> <p>Pleon (Fig. 7E): Four pleonites. Posterolateral spines present in all pleonites, but larger on third and fourth. Second to fourth pleonites slightly serrated on posterodorsal margin. Fourth pleonite with 1 pair of short simple setae near posterolateral angles, and 2 additional posterolateral spines.</p> <p>Pleopods: Absent.</p> <p>Telson (Fig 7E): Longer than broad. Posterior margin produced into broad trapezoid, with 5 pairs of long, stout plumose setae bearing hooklets distally. Lateral angle each with 1 single stout spine and with 1 short laterally plumose seta. Dorsal surface with 3 pairs of short simple setae, as illustrated. Anal spine present.</p> <p>Zoea II (Figs 2B, 3B, 3E, 4B, 4E, 5B, 5E, 6B, 6D, 7A, 7F. 1, 7F. 2)</p> <p>Size: CL = 2.190 ± 0.51 mm; RPL = 12.762 ± 0.30 mm; RL = 7.625 ± 0.22 mm; PL = 3.301 ± 0.13; n = 8.</p> <p>Color in life: same as in previous stage.</p> <p>Cephalothorax (Fig. 2B): Similar in shape to first zoea. Carapace with 3 pairs of small plumose setae (2 pairs in anteromedian region and 1 pair on posterodorsal region), and 1 tubercle in posterior region. Ventral margin of carapace with slightly serrated edge. Eyes stalked.</p> <p>Antennule (Fig. 3B): Biramous. Protopod with 1 short plumose seta at midlength of lateral margin. Endopod glabrous. Exopod with 6 rows of marginal aesthetascs (4+5+3+3+2+3) and 4 setae (1 subterminal simple + 1 terminal simple + 1 terminal lateral-plumose + 1 terminal plumose).</p> <p>Antenna (Fig. 3E): Endopod greatly elongated, 1.2 times as long as exopod.</p> <p>Mandible (Fig. 4B): Similar in shape to first zoea. Incisor processes with sharper teeth. Unsegmented mandible palp present.</p> <p>Maxillule (Fig. 4E): Coxal endite with 11 setae (5 cuspidate + 6 plumodenticulate). Endopod with 1 subterminal short simple setae.</p> <p>Maxilla (Fig. 5B): Coxal endite bilobed; proximal lobe with 11 setae (simple, stout laterally plumose and sparsely plumose), distal lobe with 7 setae (same typology as in proximal lobe). Basal endite bilobed; proximal lobe with 8 or 9 setae, distal lobe with 10 setae (same typology as in coxal endite). Scaphognathite with 21–23 marginal plumose setae.</p> <p>First maxilliped (Fig. 5E): Endopod 4-segmented, with 3+1,3+1,4+1,6-7+1 setae (long dorsal plumose and ventral or distal sparsely plumose). Exopod 2-segmented, with 0, 12 setae (2 proximal short plumose + 10 plumosenatatory).</p> <p>Second maxilliped (Fig. 6B): Basis with setae typology changed (1 subterminal long sparsely-plumose + 1 terminal long sparsely plumose + 1 terminal short sparsely plumose). Endopod 4-segmented, with 2+1,2+1,3+1,5+1 setae (long dorsal plumose, ventral and distal sparsely plumose). Exopod 2-segmented, with 0,12 setae (2 proximal short plumose + 10 plumose-natatory).</p> <p>Third maxilliped (Fig. 6D): Endopod elongated, swollen, slightly segmented, without setae. Exopod small, glabrous.</p> <p>Pereiopods (Fig. 7A): Well-developed, but not clearly segmented. First and fifth pereiopods bifid distally, with chelate appearance.</p> <p>Pleon (Fig. 7F. 1): Five pleonites. Third and fourth pleonites with 1 pair of short dorsal simple setae. Fifth pleonite with 1 pair of short simple setae near posterolateral angles, and 2 additional posterolateral spines.</p> <p>Pleopods (Fig. 7F. 2): Present as biramous buds, from second to fifth pleonites.</p> <p>Telson (Fig. 7F. 1): Posteromedian margin with 1 short but stout plumose seta.</p> <p>Megalopa (Figs 2 C–E, 3C, 3F, 4C, 4F, 5C, 5F, 6C, 6E, 7B–D, 7G)</p> <p>Size: CL = 1.62 ± 0.10 mm; CW = 1.50 ± 0.12 mm; n = 6.</p> <p>Cephalothorax (Figs 2D, 2C, 2E): Subcircular, slightly triangular, wider towards posterior region. Smooth tubercles on protogastric region, 1 on each side. Margin of concave intestinal region with 1 small posteriorly directed tubercle on central notch. Cephalothorax completely covered by small simple setae, symmetrically arranged along midline. Rostrum small, narrow, with distal end ventrally deflected approximately 55°. Trilobate front, with slightly serrulated edge. Eyes stalked, standing out from carapace, with 3 setae at base of each eye.</p> <p>Antennule (Fig. 3C): Peduncle 3-segmented, with 65 (10 plumose + 10 simple + 45 spiniform arranged in row), 1 terminal simple, 5 (2 subterminal simple + 3 terminal simple) setae, respectively. First segment broad, with 4 protuberances (1 basal + 3 terminal). Inner flagellum (endopod) 3-segmented, with 10 (4 short simple + 6 long simple), 4 simple, 9 simple setae, respectively. Outer flagellum (exopod) 6-segmented, with 0,0,0,3,4,2 simple setae and approximately 0,7,6,4,2,0 aesthetascs, respectively. All aesthetascs presents transverse soft clefts, distributed evenly, from base to apex.</p> <p>Antenna (Fig. 3F): Slightly longer than CL. Peduncle 3-segmented, with 0, 2, 2 simple setae, respectively. Flagellum with 18 segments, with 2–8 short simple setae on each segment, and 8 setae on last segment.</p> <p>Mandible (Fig. 4C): Palp 3-segmented, with 2 simple, 0, 12 stout denticulated setae.</p> <p>Maxillule (Fig. 4F): Coxal endite with 27-30 plumodenticulate setae. Basial endite with 1 median plumodenticulate + 23-37 terminal plumodenticulate setae. Endopod 2-segmented, with 0,1 simple seta, respectively. Basal lobe rounded, with microtrichia setae at lobe margin. Exopodal setae long and simple, near base of basal lobe.</p> <p>Maxilla (Fig. 5C): Coxal endite bilobed, with 33 (7 basal + 19 medial + 7 terminal) + 16 (7 basal at basal-terminal disposition + 3 subterminal + 6 terminal) plumodenticulate setae. Basal endite bilobed, with 12 (4 subterminal + 8 terminal) + 21 (1 subterminal + 20 terminal) plumodenticulate setae. Endopod unsegmented, with 3 plumose setae, and 2 minute spines at the distal end. Scaphognathite with 48–56 plumose setae on margin, and 2 pairs of simple setae in inner zone, one pair on dorsal face and other on ventral face.</p> <p>First maxilliped (Fig. 5F): Coxopodite with 20–23 (5 medial simple + 7 short denticulated + 8–11 long plumodenticulate) setae. Incipient sharp process located close to coxal endite at terminal margin. Basipodite weakly bilobed, with 29–34 (4 long simple + 2 inner short denticulated + 11–16 terminal simple) setae. Endopod unsegmented, with 2 basal plumodenticulate setae. Exopod unsegmented, with 2 (occasionally 3) medial plumose setae.</p> <p>Second maxilliped (Fig. 6C): Coxopodite with 8–10 (7 plumose + 1 or 2 short plumodenticulate + 0 or 1 simple) setae. Basipodite with 5–7 plumose setae. Endopod 4-segmented, with approximately 7,4,30,30 setae (segments 1 and 2 with plumose setae, segments 3 and 4 with laterally-plumose setae). Exopod 2-segmented, with 5–7 sparsely plumose, 5 plumose setae.</p> <p>Third maxilliped (Fig. 6E): Protopod with 14 or 15 (distally-plumose, short denticulated and simple) setae. Endopod 5-segmented, with approximately 30,30,40,22,15 setae, respectively (of which 16,16,14,12 are long setae). Exopod unsegmented and reduced, with 4 simple setae.</p> <p>Pereiopods (Figs 7B, 7C): All segments well differentiated, with simple setae arranged as illustrated. Chelipeds elongated, with 1 sharp and prominent spine at base of carpus, and 1 tubercle at proximal margin of propodus, near base of dactylus. Pereiopod II–IV with 1 terminal spine on propodus, and 3 spines along proximal margin of dactylus. Pereiopod V reduced in size and chelated, with 4 terminal setae on carpus, and 9–12 sensory setae distributed between propodus and dactylus (Fig. 7C). Chela of pereiopod V showing triangular denticles at terminal margin of both segments, inner face of chela with simple setae.</p> <p>Sternum (Fig. 7D): Maxilliped sternites fused, with 8 simple setae. Sternites of pereiopods I–V with 6,3,2,2,0 simple setae, respectively. Protopod of pereiopods I–IV with 1 protuberance ventrally deflected at apex. Protopod of pereiopod V with 2 smaller protuberances, in same location as in preceding pereiopods, but not ventrally deflected. Protopod setation as illustrated.</p> <p>Pleon (Fig. 7G): With 6 well differentiated pleonites, each with setae symmetrically arranged axially, as shown.</p> <p>Pleopods (Fig. 7G): Present on pleonites II–V. Protopods without setae. Endopod of all pleopods with 2 simple setae (1 medial proximal + 1 subterminal distal), and 3–5 cincinuli on each endopod. Exopods each with 13 plumose natatory setae.</p> <p>Uropods (Fig. 7G): Protopod with 3 sparsely plumose setae. Endopod with 18 plumose natatory setae. Exopod with 18 (occasionally 20 or 21) plumose natatory setae.</p> <p>Telson (Fig. 7G): Unilobate, quadrangular, with notch on each lateral margin, towards distal region and before line of setae on terminal margin. Terminal margin with 24 (18 plumose-natatory + 6 short simple) setae.
