03EDE106E96CFF86FF60FD8A6032527D.taxon	diagnosis	Diagnosis. Protibia on its anterior face with deep furrow for reception of tarsus; pronotum spherical with lateral carinae; eyes entire; antennal funiculus 7 - segmented, club flat, slightly truncated anteriorly, with partial lateral grooves on its anterior face near the base of club, on posterior face corneous with a narrow partial septum; elytral interstriae carinated, interstriae 10 short, reaching only to level of metacoxae. Maxillae with coarse lacinial spines; labium with broad mentum which extends over most of the rhomboid shaped labial palp segment 1. Proventriculus with large anterior plate without median suture, weakly sclerotised, containing irregularly placed scale-like teeth. Male aedeagus with a simple curved spiculum gastrale without fork, tegmen open dorsally, ventrally with manubrium greatly enlarged and scoop-shaped; penis body as long as apodemes, apex distinctly narrowed.	en	Jordal, B. 03EDE106E96CFF86FF60FD8A6032527D.taxon	discussion	Comments. The mouthparts (Fig. 11), proventriculus (Fig. 12) and male genitalia (Fig. 13) are illustrated here for the first time. These structures reflect high similarity with Xyloctonus, Scolytomimus and Ctonoxylon Hagedorn, and differs strongly from Glostatus Schedl (see Jordal 2023). Even though the male aedeagus is missing the strongly sclerotized intromittent organ (basal sclerites) typical for these genera, the spicule, tegmen and general form and proportions of the aedeagus are the same as in Xyloctonus and Ctonoxylon. The anterior plate of the proventriculus is of the same principal type as in Xyloctonus, whereas the posterior plate is fully developed in Cryphalomimus, not reduced as in Xyloctonus. The mouthparts (Fig. 11) are intermediate between Glostatus and the other xyloctonine genera and therefore less informative, although the mentum is characteristically broad as in related genera. Overall, the characteristic shape of the tibiae, pronotum, elytral interstriae, male aedeagus and in part, the proventriculus, clearly demonstrate a close relationship to Xyloctonus, Scolytomimus and Ctonoxylon, corresponding to molecular phylogenetic analyses (Jordal 2023).	en	Jordal, B. 03EDE106E96CFF87FF60F9B460195568.taxon	discussion	Comments. One of the new records provides the first known host plant for the genus, Grewia flavescens (Malvaceae), where C. striatus was collected from fruits of this plant. Presumably older fruits were used as they dry out on the branch and provide a more suitable texture for tunneling. Reproduction was likely successful based on the many specimens collected, unless some kind of maturation feeding occurs. Several of the new records from Limpopo, KwaZulu-Natal, and the Eastern Cape, extend its known distribution beyond past records from Namibia and Gauteng in northern parts of South Africa (Schedl 1982). Apparently, this species is more common than previously reported (Wood & Bright 1992). A primary source for the record from Mozambique (Bright & Skidmore 1997) is not documented. However, it is likely to be found there as this country is located between countries with verified records. The sample from Namibia reported by Schedl (1982) was not noted as such by Wood & Bright (1992).	en	Jordal, B. H. 03EDE106E96DFF87FF60FAA7608950A9.taxon	discussion	Comments. This species is possibly a variant of C. striatus. However, based on the limited material known for this morph (holotype and one additional specimen) it can be distinguished by its stouter body shape and the more numerous teeth along the anterior margin of the pronotum. Nunberg’s publication was not published in 1952 as stated by Wood & Bright (1992). It was intended for 1964 but not released before 15 April 1965 as clearly stated on the publication. The work also cites several papers by Schedl and Nunberg from the 1960 ’ s. The expedition by Saeger and coworkers ended in 1952 as printed on the fascicle and may have caused the confusion.	en	Jordal, B. H.
