It differs from these species by the flat section of the subapicomesal spine. In the other species this spine is cone-shaped and has, therefore, a circular basal section.	en	Rueda Martín, Paola A., Gibon, Francois-Marie, Sganga, Julieta V. 03DEE90BFFA94511FF0AFE94FD85FA37.taxon	diagnosis	Diagnosis. Cyrnellus guyanensis can be distinguished from other Cyrnellus species by the following character combination: The apex of each inferior appendage is as wide as the median part (Fig. 2 A, ia), with two subapicomesal spines dorsoventrally flat (depressed, Fig. 2 B, asI, asII), and lacking an internal lobe; the anterior arm of the dorsal phallic sclerite is thick (Figs 2 C, 2 D, ds), the posterior arms are divergent, short and slender (Fig. 2 D, ds). Cyrnellus guyanensis is most similar to C. ulmeri Flint 1971. The difference in size is important, the length of each forewing is 5 mm in C. ulmeri whereas it is 3.8 mm in C. guyanensis. The genitalia of C. guyanensis are distinguished from those of C. ulmeri by the apex of each inferior appendage being as wide as the median part (whereas it is apically broadened in C. ulmeri); the subapicomesal spines are flat (conical in C. ulmeri); an internal lobe of each inferior appendage is absent (present in C. ulmeri); the anterior arm of the dorsal phallic sclerite is reduced (absent in C. ulmeri); and the posterior arms of the dorsal phallic sclerite are divergent, short, and slender (fused and forming a tube in C. ulmeri).	en	Rueda Martín, Paola A., Gibon, Francois-Marie, Sganga, Julieta V. Both have two subapicomesal spines I (asI), inserted at mid-length of each inferior appendage. Even though the genitalia of C. guyanensis n. sp. and C. ulmeri are similar, some constant differences clearly distinguish the two species.	en	Rueda Martín, Paola A., Gibon, Francois-Marie, Sganga, Julieta V. 03DEE90BFFAF4517FF0AFA1EFE70F871.taxon	discussion	Discussion. This species was described originally based on a female from Plummer’s Island, Maryland, USA. The females of C. fraternus and C. marginalis are currently indistinguishable. Flint (1964) thought that C. fraternus and C. marginalis are synonyms and that C. fraternus is the only species of Cyrnellus in North America. That “ single species ” was thought to be widely distributed in North America, occurring in at least Alabama, Arkansas, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Wisconsin (Ross 1944). Records from these and many additional states have been reported since 1944 (Rasmussen & Morse 2021). Based on our conclusion that males of the two species are distinguishable (see diagnosis of C. marginalis, Figs 3 E – 3 K), identifications of voucher specimens from those many reports will need to be reviewed in order to determine the ranges of these two species in North America.	en	Rueda Martín, Paola A., Gibon, Francois-Marie, Sganga, Julieta V. 03DEE90BFFAF4517FF0AFF18FAFDFA89.taxon	diagnosis	Diagnosis. Cyrnellus marginalis is distinguished from other species in the genus by the following character combination: Subapicomesal spine of each inferior appendage conical, wide at base, subapical in position (Fig. 3 B, as); its internal lobe rounded (Fig. 3 B, il); the dorsal phallic sclerite has its anterior arm short (Fig. 3 C, ds) and posterior arms short and divergent (Fig. 3 D, ds). Cyrnellus marginalis is considered to be distinct from C. fraternus by having the base of each intermediate appendage narrower than the median part whereas in C. fraternus the base is subequal to the median part (Figs 3 A, 3 E). Another constant character is the ventral margin of each inferior appendage which is angulate in C. marginalis and sinuous in C. fraternus. An additional remarkable difference between the species is the position of the subapicomesal spine of each inferior appendage: in C. marginalis this spine is subapical by a distance as long as the width of the apex of the appendage (Fig. 3 A); in C. fraternus the spine’s subapical insertion is more than 1.5 times as far as the width of the apex of the appendage (Fig. 3 F); this distance is not constant among individuals of the same species (Figs 3 F, 3 I – 3 K).	en	Rueda Martín, Paola A., Gibon, Francois-Marie, Sganga, Julieta V. 03DEE90BFFAD4515FF0AFF18FEC4FCBE.taxon	diagnosis	Diagnosis. Cyrnellus minimus is similar to C. fraternus, C. marginalis, C. boliviensis n. sp., and C. zapateriensis. Cyrnellus minimus and C. zapateriensis are most similar; these two species have similar subapicomesal spines on the inferior appendages, but with distinct insertion: subapical in C. minimus (Fig. 4 B, ap) but more nearly apical in C. zapateriensis. The internal lobe of each inferior appendage is triangular in C. minimus and rounded in C. zapateriensis. Another difference from most of the other species is the near fusion of the posterior arms of the dorsal phallic sclerite (Figs 4 C, 4 D, ds). This character is also observed in C. ulmeri, this latter species being distinguished by the presence of a second subapicomesal spine on each inferior appendage.	en	Rueda Martín, Paola A., Gibon, Francois-Marie, Sganga, Julieta V.
