This species prefers to breed in the stumps and large roots of dead or dying oaks (Quercus spp.) (Fagaceae) (Nardi & Mifsud 2015), but it can also breed in a number of other plants, including trees in the families, Ericaceae, Fabaceae, Fagaceae, Moraceae, Myrtaceae, Rhamnaceae, and Vitaceae, and in timber (e. g. Fisher 1950; Nardi & Mifsud 2015). The new record for NX was excavated from Fraxinus chinensis Roxb. (Oleaceae) is a new host genus and family for this species. Liu et al. 6F59CD1CFFD15320FF506C7EFEAC2939.taxon	discussion	Remarks. The male of the species has two types, heteromorphic and homeomorphic. The homeomorphic male has some characters which resemble those of the female. The frons is like that of the female; the prothorax is like that of the heteromorphic male but the anterior unci are replaced by a simple upcurved tooth; the elytra are like the heteromorphic male (Lesne 1899, Stebbing 1914) (see also figs 4 K & L). There are two or three morphological forms of male in species of both Bostrychopsis and Heterobostrychus making identification difficult (Lesne 1899, Stebbing 1914).	en	Liu, Lan-Yu (2021): An annotated synopsis of the powder post beetles (Coleoptera: Bostrichidae) of Mainland China. 6F59CD1CFFD05321FF506A06FDC52B21.taxon	biology_ecology	Biology. This species is common in forests, timber depots, sawmills and furniture factories, and is a primary borer in the sapwood of logs, and timbers used in house building, boxes, and packing cases (PaDIL 2017). It is of economic importance as an agricultural, forestry and forest product pest. Hua (2002) reports the species also been found in Chinese herbal medicines. The adults sometimes bore into living shoots to feed or hibernate, and may cause damage to young saplings (Sittichaya et al. 2009); breeding occurs in the sapwood of dead or dying trees (Beeson & Bhatia 1937). The life cycle is highly variable in length and can take from a minimum of three months to a maximum of over four years (Liu et al. 2008 a). The adults emerge throughout the year, and generations strongly overlap (Beeson & Bhatia 1937; Liu et al. 2008 a).	en	Liu, Lan-Yu (2021): An annotated synopsis of the powder post beetles (Coleoptera: Bostrichidae) of Mainland China. It is a pest of stored grain of all kinds and the flour of the same and starchy food-substances generally (Beeson & Bhatia 1937; Kenis & Branco 2010; Edde 2012; CABI 2017). This species originally bred in dead wood, and Beeson & Bhatia (1937) recorded the species from caged logs of twelve plant families in India. This species is one of the most difficult stored product insect pests to control using insecticide grain protectants. Prevention is by far the best control option, but may be impractical given the ability of R. dominica to migrate into grain storage containers (Liu et al. 2016). The biology and control of the species have recently been reviewed by Edde (2012). Liu et al. (2016) has listed Anisopteromalus calandrae (Howard) and Theocolax elegans (Westwood) (Hymenoptera: Pteromalidae) as parasitoids of the pupae. Edde & Phillip (2006) suggested the predator, Zelus tetracanthus Stål (Hemiptera: Reduviidae) could be employed for biological control.	en	Liu, Lan-Yu (2021): An annotated synopsis of the powder post beetles (Coleoptera: Bostrichidae) of Mainland China.
