Holotype — UZBEKISTAN [formerly USSR], Qashqadaryo viloyati, Korovin s.n. (TASH).
Etymology: in honour of Vladimir Leont’jevich Komarov (1869—1945), Russian botanist.
Both generic names in current use, Komarovia Korovin (1940) of Apiaceae and Komaroffia Kuntze (1887) of Ranunculaceae, commemorate the Russian botanist Vladimir Leont’jevich Komarov [Комаров] (1869—1945), the spelling of which is different being derived from the Latin base [Komarov -] or the German base [Komaroff -] of transliteration of his surname.
In addition,a new tribal name Komaroviopsideae trib.nov. is proposed to replace previously proposed ‘ Komarovieae’ J. Zhou & S.R. Downie, nom. inval. (in Zhou et al., 2009: 64), but invalidly published [lacking discernible characters, i.e. descriptive statement does not satisfy the requirement of Art. 38.1(a) for a “description or diagnosis”), since the authors defined the new tribe as “Tribus generum distributionis Asia”:
